AWARDS

Truth be told, awards have never been my central focus. My goal has always been to make ads that people remember and love. That said, if there was a ‘1b’ on my vocational to-do list, it would involve being slathered with industry recognition and praise. My work has picked up trophies at several global shows including: Cannes, One Show, D&AD, New York Festivals, London International and Communication Arts. I’ve also picked up gold at Canada’s radio and film shows and was named Strategy Magazine’s number two ranked copywriter.

About ME

I’m a senior copywriter in London but I’m originally from Canada which is why Australians typically assume I’m Irish.

Throughout my 20's, I sold used construction equipment. Tired of all the glitz and glamour that comes parcelled with haggling over Komatsus, I set course on a new career. In 2007, I graduated from Miami Ad School and began working at DDB Vancouver where I met my wife and John Cleese.

In 2010, I moved to Australia for a role at Clemenger BBDO. Two years on, I moved to Droga5 and in 2013, I landed at DDB Sydney for an excellent seven-year stint. There, I wrote a commercial for Westpac that made news in the UK, with the Mirror describing it as “heartbreaking”, while noting some commenters were calling it “the best ad ever”. That part was questionably a sliver generous but who am I to second guess the creative likings of bank ad tweeters.

As much as advertising has made me prone to overpromise, this I can say with true confidence: I am a writer's writer. I know how to create emotionally resonant work and why it's so essential. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work at some of the top agencies in Australia and Canada under inspiring creative leaders. Being a firm believer that children are, perhaps, the future, I’ve tutored at Miami Ad School and Australia’s Award School.

In November 2019, I traded the sunny beaches of Manly for the perma-drizzly Thames and honestly, I couldn’t be more excited. There’s no place more famous for brilliant, crafty, infuriatingly clever copywriting and I can’t wait to get stuck in.
